In the serenity of this new day's dawn, I seek shelter under the compassionate gaze of the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
With the wisdom of the Dhammapada lighting my path, I am reminded of the profound verse, "Speak not harshly to anyone, for those thus spoken to might retort. Indeed, angry speech hurts, and retaliation may overtake you." May I use this wisdom to guide my speech today and all days that follow.
In the stillness of this morning, I pledge to cultivate a heart of understanding, to let my words be ones of kindness, not steeped in anger, resentment, or malice. May my interactions with others be guided by compassion, so each word I utter is a gift, not a weapon.
In the spirit of Buddha's teachings, I vow to respect the dignity of all beings, to be mindful of the impact of my words. I will strive to mend, not break; to heal, not hurt; to love, not hate.
As I navigate the currents of this life, I pray for the strength to hold my tongue in moments of anger, to replace harsh words with silence, and to respond to aggression with patience and understanding.
Oh, the enlightened ones, may I learn from your wisdom, may my communication reflect your teachings, and may I never forget that harmful words can create wounds deeper than any physical injury.
In times of conflict, remind me to pause, to breathe, to seek understanding before I speak.
As I end this prayer, I carry with me the mantra, "Speak with kindness, respond with patience." Let this be my guiding light throughout the day, a reminder to uphold the virtues of compassion and understanding.
"Speak with kindness, respond with patience."
May it be so.
