In the humble silence of the morning, we awaken to the radiant sun, to the gentle call of the world, and to the wisdom of the Dhammapada. Breathing in peace, we invite compassion and understanding into our hearts, echoing the verse from Chapter 15, Verse 197:
"Happy indeed we live, friendly amidst the hostile. Amidst hostile men we dwell free from hatred."
As we step into this new day, may we be bathed in the light of the Buddha's teachings, finding strength in unity, kindness in diversity, and love amidst adversity. Just as the lotus flower rises above the muddy water, may we rise above hostility and hatred, cultivating an abode of peace within our hearts.
Let us not be swayed by the storms of anger or swept away by the tides of resentment. Instead, let us stand firm on the solid ground of mindfulness, nurturing seeds of compassion and understanding. For in this world of impermanence, is it not better to extend a hand of friendship, than to clench it into a fist of hostility?
May our thoughts, words, and actions reflect the Buddha's wisdom, fostering harmony where there is discord, offering hope where there is despair, and spreading love where there is hatred. For in doing so, we truly live the Buddha's teachings, embodying the essence of the Dhammapada.
As we go forward, let us carry this prayer into the corners of our day, into the depths of our minds, and into the vastness of our hearts.
End this prayer with this simple mantra to be gently whispered throughout the day:
"Amidst hostility, I dwell in love. Amidst hatred, I dwell in peace."
May all beings be happy. May all beings be safe. May all beings be free from suffering.
Sādhu! Sādhu! Sādhu!
